Anti encroachment drive is conducted throughout the whole city to clear traffic congestion caused due to encroachments.

In pursuance to the directions of Hon;ble High Court, Jammu in the case titled All India Taxi Sumo Union vs State & ors, an anti encroachment drive is conducted throughout the whole city to clear traffic congestion caused due to encroachments. In compliance to instructions issued Jammu Municipal Corporation had started a public awareness campaign by publication/distribution of appeal pamphlets and made announcements through loud speakers in the city well before conducting the anti encroachment drive. Besides, JMC also served notices to all the shopkeepers for removing their encroachments especially from footpaths/pavements. The objective of the campaign is to aware general public about sanitation, encroachments of footpaths/pavements, illegal constructions & lanes/drains/nallahs etc. Dr. Manmohan Singh (KAS), Municipal Commissioner called a meeting with all the members of market Association regarding encroachment made by the shopkeepers on the footpaths/pavements. A brief discussion was held with the members on the issue and they assured JMC that they will give their full cooperation while conducting anti encroachment drive against defaulters. They also stressed upon that such drives should be taken vigorously in future because some offenders in market are habitual to encroach the footpaths causing obstruction to vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians. Today on 21.10.2016 on the directions of Dr. Manmohan Singh (KAS), Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation the Enforcement & Health wing of JMC launched an extensive anti encroachment drive under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (Adm), R.S. Jamwal (KAS) with the assistance of SP, Traffic, Rohit, SDPO City, Vivek Shekhar, SHO city, Shakti Devi and police force in the areas of Veer Marg, Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road , JP Chowk, Vinayak Bazar, Dogra chowk etc. During the drive 4 truck loads of material has been seized from shopkeepers who has encroached footpaths/pavements by installing/displaying their articles outside the premises of shop causing hindrance to pedestrians and also causing heavy traffic vehicular traffic congestion. The encroachments over the footpaths/pavements also causing insanitation condition due to coverage of drains. During the drive team interacted with general public and law abiding shopkeepers who has praised the JMC for such initiatives and extended their full cooperation in conduct of drive for making city neat and clean. Among others who have accompanied R.S. Jamwal (KAS), Joint Commissioner (Adm), JMC are Chief Enforcement Officers, Rajesh Gupta & Kamini Kesar, Health Officer, Dr. Anita Salgotra Asstt. Enforcement Officers, Enforcement Inspectors and other staff members of the Corporation. During the drive R.S.Jamwal (KAS), Joint Commissioner (Adm), JMC make fervent appeals to all the shopkeepers to avoid encroaching footpaths/pavements which is meant to be used by the pedestrians and not for their articles, if the shopkeeprs do not desist this practice action under Municipal Act shall be initiated against defaulter like seizing of material/demolition of encroachment & sealing of premises.
