JMC Celebrates World Environment Day

Jammu Municipal Corporation celebrates World Environment Day today on 5th of June, 2017 at Trikuta Nagar, Jammu where a number of awareness programmes were organized focusing on the issues of environment with lot of creative activities and enthusiasm to bring positive changes in the environment. Hon’ble Deputy CM, Dr. Nirmal Singh flagged off the rally on World Environment Day from Mini Market, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu which ended up at JDA park Trikuta Nagar. Rally was also accompanied by Hon’ble Speaker Sh. Kavinder Gupta, Member Legislative Assembly Sh. Vikram Randhawa, Commissioner, JMC Mr. M.Raju (IAS), VC JDA, Sh. Rajesh Shavan (KAS), Joint Commissioner (A), JMC Sh. R.S Jamwal (KAS), senior officers of JMC and members of various social Organizations, NGO’s like Sulabh International, Market Associations, Senior Citizens and people from different walks of life. On this occasion plantation of saplings at JDA park, Trikuta Nagar Jammu was done by the dignitaries to aware and spread a message to plant more and more trees to save our environment. Thereafter Swachhta and source segregation oath was taken by the Dy. CM, other dignitaries, Officers and general pubic. During the oath all the participants pledge to start segregating waste at source and to be committed to devote atleast two hours a week and aware atleast 100 people to make them a part of this Campaign to keep our surroundings Clean and Green. Prizes were also distributed amongst the winners of wall painting competition at the function which was organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes including Mementoes, appreciation certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 2000/- respectively were also distributed to the winners of wall painting competition. 1st prize was given to Mr. Aman Kanathia of G.G.M Science College, 2nd prize to Mr. Shubham Bali and Ms. Samanpreet Kour of SPMR College of Commerce and 3rd prize to Mr. Mohinder Kumar of G.G.M Science College. Under Swachh Jammu Public opinion poll 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were also distributed amongst the winners which was conducted by Jammu Municipal Corporation. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes including Mementoes, appreciation certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 10,000/- , Rs. 7000/- and Rs. 5000/- respectively were also distributed to winners of Swachh Jammu Public opinion poll. 1st prize was given to Sh. Bansi Lal, Sanitary supervisor, JMC and its team of W.No. 30, 2nd prize to Sh. Majid, Sanitary supervisor and its team of W.No. 60 and 3rd prize to Sh. Vijay Kumar, Sanitary supervisor and its team of W.No. 14. A Nukkad Natak was also presented by Newsline under the banner of Swachh Bharat Mission. A significant message was delivered through this Natak by the Newsline artists over the World Environment Day. They stressed upon to save our environment by focusing on Swachhta, to action against Wild life crime and replanting of forests. During the address to participants, Speaker, Sh. Kavinder Gupta appreciated the role of JMC for taking steps towards making Jammu City clean and green and also lauded the role of general public for adopting positive measures towards Swachhta Abhiyan. Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh in his address appealed to the general public that there is a need to do something effective in order to reduce the rate of climate change. He impressed upon to save and utilize many natural resources for better life of our future generations. Dy. Chief Minister also stressed upon to adopt three techniques like reduce, reuse and recycle for effective measures in lessening the impact of our bad activities over natural ecosystem. These steps will help us in solving environmental issues in near future. While taking oath Dy. CM also stressed upon to adhere to oath practically, mindsets to be changed, award to those who work with zeal and dedication and punish those who are on part of laxity in their work, judious use of electricity. He also appreciated the role of JMC, Social Organizations, Market Associations, Civil Societies, NGO’s, Sulabh International, students from various schools and colleges, Nukkad Natak team for their awareness message regarding environment. The Main motto of celebrating of World Environment Day is to know and solve all the environmental issues. This years theme “Connecting People to Nature”, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance and to take forward the call to protect the Earth, we share. The theme invites us to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. The programme ended up with vote of thanks and a pledge to understand our mistakes and act positively to neutralize the bad effects of those mistakes
