Ramesh Kumar (IAS), a joint drive was conducted by special teams of JMC headed by Secretary, JMC Mrs. Sunaina Sharma (KAS). DySP. Traffic Sh. Sunny Gupta, SDPO North Sh. Varun Jandyal, Enforcement Officer Sh. Kamini Kesar, Revenue Officers Sh. Ashwani Sudan and Sh. Sunil Gupta, SHO’s of concerned police stations, Enforcement inspectors and other field staff of JMC also accompanied the drive. Drive was mainly focused on encroachments of footpaths, illegal hoardings, rehries/pharies. The drive was conducted in various areas of Jammu city i.e. Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Residency Road, Id-Gah Road etc. During the drive, the team removed 4 truck loads of material including goods displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and also lifted hoardings. The encroachers and shopkeepers of the areas were warned to keep their saleable items within their shutter line and not to encroach the footpaths which leads to congestion and obstructs free movement of pedestrians on footpath. The street vendors were also directed to ply their rehries only in the Rehri Zones established by JMC. JMC regularly conducts such drives creating awareness among the shopkeepers, street vendors and encroachers through announcements by using loudspeakers to follow the rules in order to avoid penal action against them. The shopkeepers were also given strict warnings for not displaying their goods by illegally extending parameters of their shops. They were also informed that in case of further violations, JMC shall be bound to seal their premises, in the light of directions from Hon’ble High Court in WPPIL No. 27/2017 titled “Court on its own motion Vs JMC”.
