Drive against the menace of Open defecation, open Urination & littering of garbage in the areas.

On the directions of Commissioner JMC Ms. Avny Lavasa, (IAS) the Health & Sanitation staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation under the supervision of Health Officer conducted intensive drive against the menace of Open defecation, open Urination & littering of garbage in the areas viz Shalamar, Bus Stand, Vikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Gole Market, New Plot, Nai Basti, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar Digiana, Janipur, etc. During the drive, the teams of JMC penalized the defaulters for open defecation, urination and littering of garbage on the roads / lanes and imposed fine /penalty amounts to Rs. 71,000 on spot. Besides this, the drive was also launched to implement the ban on sale of polythene carry bags and disposable goods. 1100 KG of polythene and other disposable items were seized and an amount of Rs. 80500/- recovered as fine from defaulters. Moreover, 1400 defaulters were also challaned for various offences under the provisions of J&K Municipal Act 2000 and Solid Waste Management, Bye laws-2011. It is also for the information of general public that during the past one year 4000 Individual Household Toilets (IHHTS) and 30 Community Toilets have been constructed within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Public notices appealing to the public about adoption of clean and hygienic practices have been issued from time to time. The plots owners across the city where slums/ jugies have been established have also been appealed to build toilets in the plots to curb the menace of open defecation/ urination/littering of garbage on road / public lanes. The teams of JMC also make the public aware about the harmful effects of open urination & defecation and appeal to public at large to desist from such unhygienic practices and extend all possible help and cooperation to make the city clean and disease free.
