“Plastic Lao Thaila Pao Campaign” under Plastic Waste Management Programme organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), launch the “Plastic Lao Thaila Pao” campaign at Jammu, was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta, Commissioner JMC, Ms. Avny Lavasa (IAS). The campaign was started today with the installation of KIOSK called PLASTIC LAO THAILA PAO at Residency Road, Shaheedhi Chowk, Jammu in which citizens of Jammu city are requested to give 10 plastic bottles or equivalent plastic material & in return they are provided a Jute bag. The aim of the campaign is to motivate the local citizens & shopkeepers of the city to use a minimal amount of plastic & replace it with Jute/ paper bags. The campaign was launched with IEC partners 'All India Institute of Local Self Government'. This campaign part of ongoing effort to spread awareness on the need for responsible plastic use and its disposal. Reflecting on the larger objective of the “Plastic Lao Thaila Pao campaign”, The Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation stated that “Our objective is to bring about behavioral change needed to responsibly segregate waste at source as a first step for recycling of plastic waste. The initial response has been quite encouraging and we are hopeful that the increasing awareness will eventually bring about effective and scientific management of plastic waste in Jammu city. The Hon’ble Mayor stated on the occasion that need of the hour is to aware the general masses about the effects of plastic on environment as well as for humans and added that JMC shall impose penalty/fine on the defaulters if found using plastic and impressed upon to put extra efforts to eradicate the menace of plastic. Among others Councillor, Ward No. 5, Gopal Gupta, Councillor, Ward No. 7 Ritu Choudhary, Health Officer, JMC, Dr. Sanjogita Sudan and President of Market Association were also present on the occasion.
