Jammu Municipal Corporation today organized an awareness cum Capacity Building program at Rani Talab, Gurudwara, Digiana for Dairy farmers operating within Jammu Municipal Corporation limits regarding environmental management of Dairies and Goushalas as per the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The program was organized under the chairmanship of Commissioner, JMC Ms. Avny Lavasa in presence of M.V.O, JMC Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Divisional Officer, JKPCC, Jammu Sh. Arshad Malik, Scientist/ Nodal Officer, Dairies/SWM, JKPCC Smt. Anuradha Gupta and Representative of KVIC, in which 50 number of Dairy farmers participated. During the program, the Dairy farmers were made aware regarding Environmental Management of waste generated in Dairy farms and Goushalas by installing Bio Gas Plants, Vermi-Compost Units and adopting other scientific techniques for the proper disposal of Cattle dung and Urine. The Dairy farms and Goushalas discharge the cattle dung along with waste water into the drains, leading to clogging, which ultimately reach to rivers and create water pollution. However, cattle dung, if effectively utilized, can be a resource of manure and energy. M.V.O, JMC appraised that there are about 600 Dairy units including those dairy units having animals for single sustenance and 5 number of Goushalas have been identified by the field staff of Veterinary wing of JMC, which are operating within JMC limits. He Also informed that Jammu Municipal Corporation has started the Online Dairy Registration process and those Dairy Units who fulfill the set norms & criteria shall be provisionally registered to further issue License/ Registration under Section 324 of Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. Commissioner, JMC advised the Dairy farmers to adopt various scientific methods for proper disposal of waste generated in the Dairies and Goushalas as advised in the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board, so that we can keep our city neat and clean and also keep proper space for rearing dairy animals to prevent any sort of cruelty on them. Since it is your livelihood, so we do not affect your business but she stressed that as Jammu city is striding towards becoming a Smart city and all those non compliant Dairy Units having no proper provision for waste disposal, proper rearing space shall not be allowed to operate within Jammu Municipal Corporation limits in the coming time.
